The Taliban has proved the immovable object. The years go by, the U.S. and coalition troop numbers rise exponentially, and the Taliban continues to resist their numbers and resolve apparently undiminished.

The militants kill twice as many foreign soldiers now than they did a year ago. They can and do strike right in the heart of the capital Kabul. Reporting in Kabul I was forbidden from venturing even 30 minutes from Kabul lest we fall into the hands of the Taliban who rule the roads.

Afghanistan is ruled by a government lacking credibility and riddled with corruption. A government dubiously elected in a fraudulent ballot.

Can the Taliban be bought? Right now it is a seller's market and the militants can name their price.
